Bingo

Bingo was first called "Lo Giuoco del Lotto D'Italia" and comes from Italy. In the 1770's it went to France and was played among the wealthy French aristocrats. In the 1880's The Germans created their version of Bingo, which was used as an educational game for children.

The game reached America in the 1920's under the name "Beano". The first game was played at a carnival in Atlanta, Georgia. After some of the players accidentally yelled "bingo" the game was renamed. A catholic priest used the Bingo game for fund raising. When bingo started being played in churches his popularity increased rapidly.

Bingo is known as a game of chance where each player has one or more cards printed with differently numbered squares on which to place markers when the respective numbers are drawn and announced by a caller.

When a number on the card is drawn, the players cover that number and the first player to mark a complete row of numbers is the winner and yells BINGO. The game can be won by covering a certain number of squares in a row vertically, horizontally, or diagonally.
